Coming Soon: I Remember Mama

April 9 – May 1, 2010

George Stevens's charming film version of Kathryn Forbes' collection of short stories entitled - Mama's Bank Account. The film is narrated by Mama's daughter Katrin, recalling the trials and tribulations of her family in turn-of-the-century San Francisco. Mama tries to keep her house in order and her family on their toes as a motley assortment of eccentric relatives, boarders, and friends -- including Uncle Chris, Mr. Hyde, Dr. Johnson, and Mr. Thorkelson - weave in and out of their lives.

Featured Artist: Darryl Glenn Steele

Darryl Glenn Steele was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1956 and has been pursuing his artwork since he sold his first painting at the age of 17. He studied art in high school under Paul Grigsby and Glenda Collins and briefly attended the Watkins School of Art.

In addition he has won several awards at the Central South Art Exhibition and the Tennessee All-State Artist's Exhibition. His work has been represented in galleries across the United States and is featured in public and private collections here and abroad including the collections of Vanderbilt University, the Opryland Hotel, and is currently represented by the Local Color Gallery in Nashville and the Turtle Hollow Gallery in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Dramatic Acting Workshop

March 20, 2010 11:30 am–2:00 pm

Comedy is easy. It's all in the timing. Drama, now that's the hard stuff! Come and learn the ins and outs of dramatic acting. We will be reading scenes and monologues from dramatic productions, including some traditional Greek theatre. Also, we will play some improv games that deal with the dramatic sides of each of us. Come for a fun day of drama (the good kind, that is)! Ages 12 and up. Price for the class is $40 and you can purchase tickets online.

Musical Theatre Audition Workshop

April 10, 2010 10:00 am–12:00 pm

Learn a dance audition combo as well as basic steps that are frequently used in musical theater. You will get a great workout while also learning tips on performing choreography as well as how to nail a dance audition every time! Then work on your acting skills a bit while you get tips on cold readings and characterization techniques used in musicals. No preparation necessary and all ages and experience levels welcome! Price for the class is $35 and you can purchase tickets online.

Auditions: Gypsy

April 10, 2010 1:30–3:30 pm
April 10, 2010 3:30–5:30 pm
April 11, 2010 7:00–9:00 pm

Auditions for Gypsy (directed by Karen Himelrick) will be held April 10-11. Auditionees should prepare a one-minute excerpt from a Broadway-style song with sheet music for the piano accompanist or with CD accompaniment. There will also be a dance audition. Children ages 7-18 should audition in the first time slot. We look forward to seeing you there!
